The Office of Sponsored Programs welcomes Dr. Robert Porter, nationally renowned Research and Proposal Development Professional to CNU on April 13, 2012
.
Dr. Porter will be presenting two half day sessions. The topics are Grant Programs of Interest to Undergraduate Institutions (NEH, RUI, REU, etc) and Proposal Development for the National Institutes of Health. The sessions are scheduled to be held in the Freeman Center, room 201 starting at 9 a.m. - noon and 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.. RSVP to osp@cnu.edu no later than April 6, 2012 to ensure a seat.
Please note faculty from the College of William and Mary and Old Dominion University have also been invited. The Office of Sponsored Programs hopes to facilitate collaborative relationships between our faculty and those of the other institutions invited for future funding opportunities.

Sponsored Programs are research or programmatic activities funded by external sources. Sources may include the Federal Government, the State, or Private Foundations. Awards are made by the sponsor to the University, however, the proposal author is the Principal Investigator or the Project Director. Grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements formalize the award. Funding opportunities and collaborators are available using COS Pivot. Services

Identify and become familiar with faculty research and sponsored program objectives

Help to develop faculty ideas into research concepts

Link faculty with funding sources via COS Pivot and other means

Review funding opportunities that support faculty ambitions

Provide editorial and budgetary services throughout the proposal development procedure

Attempt to identify proof readers and mentors to assist in proposal development

Provide assistance in identifying collaborators

Facilitate institutional approval

Assist faculty with the proposal submission process

Ensure that awards made to the University reflect the proposed scope of work and funding level. Negotiate with sponsors to confirm that all costs are covered

Review awards, contracts, and cooperative agreements for problematic clauses such as publication limitation or intellectual property infringement
