Student Panel Member
The University Committee for Student Discipline is designed to hear student conduct code cases as well as honor code allegations at Christopher Newport University.  The board reflects the composition of the student population and will seek to uphold CNU community standards.  Each committee consists of three students and two faculty members.  The UCSD will make decisions on whether or not a violation of the student code of conduct or honor code occurred and the sanctions that should be imposed. In addition, panel members will have the opportunity to facilitate educational programs and outreach.

Judicial Assistants (JAs)
Judicial Assistants work cooperatively with other members of the Office of Judicial Affairs to effectively fulfill the CHECS mission.  Their primary responsibility is to serve as a resource to students on issues relating to the judicial process.  JAs will work cases involving allegations of sexual misconduct.  Specifically, they will assist either party involved in the incident with preparing for the hearing process.  This assistance means that JAs will explain the different steps involved, identify resources for the student they are assisting, outline the hearing panel procedure, and articulate the appeals options.  JAs will not assume prosecutorial or defense roles as they serve as process guides, not representatives for students. In addition, JA’s will have the opportunity to facilitate educational programs and outreach.
