Introduces "CNU Unplugged" Wireless Technology

(NEWPORT NEWS, VA) – Christopher Newport University is completing the first phase of a premiere wireless LAN (Local Access Network) which will provide wireless access throughout campus. According to Network Engineer Brian Foran, wireless Internet access will be available on the Academic Quad Lawn, the Great Lawn and in the Student Center Lounge by April 22, 2005.
“CNU Unplugged employs the latest in computer technology which will provide students unparalleled convenience and access to the campus network and the Internet,” explained Executive Vice President Bill Brauer.
The implementation of the wireless network will ensure secure connectivity with added freedom for students and faculty. By fall 2005, wireless Internet will be available in the lawns of CNU Apartments, York River Hall, James River Hall, Potomac River Hall, the lobby areas of Santoro Hall, James River Hall, York River Hall, Potomac River Hall, Harbor Lights Dining Hall, the Science Building atrium, the Library and The Freeman Center. By January 2006, the new Student Center will have wireless capabilities throughout the entire building.
“CNU Unplugged” will be officially unveiled on Friday, April 22 on the Academic Quad in front of the CNU library. IT staff will be on hand to assist with set up. (rain plan: Student Center Lounge)
