Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Scholarship Nominee

(NEWPORT NEWS, VA) – The Christopher Newport University nomination committee has selected Ms. Kristina Dandy for the 2005 Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Scholarship Competition. Each university in the U.S. can select one or two nominees for this annual competition. This summer, more than 1,200 nominees will compete for approximately 65 Graduate Scholarships.
Kristina Dandy will graduate from CNU in May 2005 with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a Minor in Philosophy and Religious Studies. Kristina was involved in research throughout her undergraduate study, including 10 conference presentations. Her work earned her authorship on a journal publication as well as an invited book chapter. Kristina was inducted into Psi Chi, the Psychology Honor Society and Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society. In 2005, she will begin work on a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology with an emphasis in Behavioral Neuroscience at Texas Christian University.
Since 2002, the Foundation has awarded 132 graduate scholarships worth $24 million. To be selected as a Jack Kent Cooke Scholar, individuals have to show exceptional academic ability, a strong will to succeed, critical thinking, a sense of service and a love of the arts and humanities. The announcement of scholars will be made in July 2005.
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is a private, independent foundation established in 2000 by the estate of Jack Kent Cooke to help young people of exceptional promise reach their full potential through education. Besides the Graduate Scholarship Program, the Foundation's programs for outstanding students with financial need also include full scholarships for students transferring from community college to complete a four-year degree and scholarships to help high-achieving youth develop their talents and abilities throughout high school.
